World of Astra
Currency
There are three primary coinage found in Astra which are minted and accepted in most locations across the continent. The types are Copper, Silver, and Gold. The standard money changing ratio is 10 Copper to Silver, 10 Silver to Gold. Gold is the most popular coinage in the world, and is used for middle class transactions and by the upper castes as a level of comparable trade, even if the transaction isn’t actually in gold pieces. Fifty standard size coins measure a pound.
There are three other items that are commonly traded, though all three are on the higher end of the monetary scale, and are thus usually only used for large trades between merchant companies, estates, and the plundering of long forgotten crypts and ruins. The three are: Singulos Chips, a lightweight, flexible green material of unknown origin with silvery or yellow lines, runes, and shapes running through it, and usually found broken into small pieces or chunks; Ethrum, a form of magical crystal or ore loosely linked with the six Etheral Winds; and Astral Diamonds, a extremely rare type of crystal, clear in color with swirls of color and void in them. All three of these trade goods are traded in amount per weight. Singulos Chips are traded in 1/10th of a pound amounts, with 1/10th of a pound of Chips being roughly equal to 10 gold. Ethrum is traded by the pound, no matter the variety, and is usually bought and sold for 100 gold per pound. Astral Diamond shards are usually extremely small, and are traded are 1/500th of a pound amounts, with a single Astral Diamond shard worth 1000 gold. Outside of the Seytalis Gate, uncut Astral Diamonds have never been found, but a full one would be estimated at a staggering half a million Gold pieces, which is more then many small countries have in their entire treasury.
